Product Review: Supersmile Toothpaste

I drink several cups of tea throughout the day and to prevent tea-stained teeth, I regularly use whitening toothpastes. I picked up Supersmile toothpaste on a recent haul and I'm excited to tell you about my experience with this toothpaste!

Supersmile products! 

Supersmile was created by Dr. Irwin Smigel in the mid 1980's. Dr. Smigel originally created this whitening toothpaste for his patients at his Madison Avenue office. One of Dr. Smigel's patients happened to be a beauty magazine editor - his whitening toothpaste received a positive review in the magazine and the popularity of his toothpaste took off! Supersmile now has a full line of whitening products, including rinse, gum, and toothbrushes. These products are safe for all teeth, including dentures and veneers.

Ingredients:
Supersmile toothpaste contains fluoride and Calprox®.
Calprox® is a patented ingredient that removes stains without the typical harsh abrasives (ex. silica) and without causing sensitivity. This Kosher toothpaste is free of silica, gluten, sulfate and dye. Full list of toothpaste ingredients:

Sodium Monofluorophosphate (0.14% w/v Fluoride Ion) Water, Sorbitol, Dicalcium Phosphate Dihydrate, Sodium Bicarbonate, Calcium Carbonate, Titanium Dioxide, Cellulose Gum, Calprox®, Sodium Perborate, Flavor, Corn Starch, Magnesium Carbonate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate, Methyl Paraben, Sodium Saccharin, Propyl Paraben.

Flavors:
Supersmile toothpaste is available in several flavors: cinnamon burst, green apple, icy mint, mandarin mint and original mint.

How To Use:
The application of this toothpaste is slightly different from other toothpastes. You apply a pearl-sized drop of toothpaste on a DRY toothbrush. Then, you brush for 2 minutes (still with a DRY toothbrush). Finally, rinse! During the first few days that I started using this Supersmile toothpaste, I had to catch myself from applying water to my toothpaste prior to brushing my teeth.

Overview:
This Supersmile toothpaste is a great toothpaste - it cleans and whitens teeth while preventing cavities and plaque. Also, this toothpaste smells and tastes great. The flavor is not overwhelming and does not 'burn' my mouth. It does not foam much, which is a characteristic that I actually like in a toothpaste. Finally, the toothpaste has a smooth, non-gritty texture. 

My favorite Supersmile flavors:
Mandarin Mint and Green Apple

Results:
After only a week of using this toothpaste at night, my teeth were whiter! I prefer this Supersmile toothpaste over other whitening toothpastes - so far I've tried Crest 3D White, Colgate Optic White and Rembrandt Intense Stain. The results have been similar to over-the-counter whitening strips (I have not tried professional whitening). Finally, this toothpaste is gentle enough for daily use. This toothpaste is not abrasive and did not cause irritation or sensitivity to my teeth or gums, unlike other 'whitening' products. 

Verdict:
Despite the fact that this toothpaste contains parabens, I highly recommend and would re-purchase this toothpaste. I would not re-purchase the accelerator component because I did not notice a significant difference in whitening with the accelerator and it is a bit of a hassle to add another component to my routine.

- Effective whitening
- Tastes great
- Safe for all teeth

Cons:
- Expensive
- Have to remember to use a dry toothbrush
- Contains parabens
