Barkbox August 2013 Review

I had won an August BarkBox for our dog and never got around to reviewing it! Don't worry, that certainly doesn't mean that I had deprived him of the box contents until now - I let him enjoy a few of the goodies as soon as the box had arrived!

Contents: August's small & cute BarkBox was 'inspired by the deep blue sea' and included 5 different items.

Unboxing August 2013 Barkbox

1. Barkworthies Bully Flakes, 4 oz

Retail value $5.51

This is a package of bully flakes, made from ground bully sticks (from free range grass fed bulls). As you can see from the empty bag, our dog has been enjoying these bully flakes. We sprinkle these bully flakes on his dry food and these make his kibble a bit more appealing. I would re-purchase.

2. Barkworthies Natural Hickory Beef Treats, 5.29 oz

Retail value: $5.29

These all natural treats are made in Canada. I appreciate that these treats are free of gluten, corn, soy, artificial flavors and by-products. These treats are semi-moist, soft and chewy.

3. Primal Pet Freeze-Dried Turkey Liver Munchies, 2 oz

Retail value: $6.99

These all natural treats are made from USA-raised turkey. I appreciate that these treats are free of grain, gluten, preservatives, salt and sugar. These treats are freeze-dried and can easily be torn into smaller pieces. Our dog loves freeze-dried meat, so I'm sure that he will enjoy these treats.

4. Quaker Pet Group Hear Doggy! Plush Toy, Small Whale

Retail value: $9.99

This toy is a unique squeaky toy - dogs can supposedly hear the ultrasonic frequency, but humans can not. I appreciate the concept, however, our dog does not play with this toy as much as his standard squeaky toys. This was made in China.

5. The Honest Kitchen Ice Pups, 0.5 oz packet

Side 1 of 2
Side 2 of 2
Retail value: $0.99 for 0.5 oz packet

This is a versatile treat mix that can be served hot or cold. It is made from chicken, turkey, whey, dandelion, asparagus, watercress, honey and parsley. I appreciate that this is free of grain, salt, artificial fillers, colorings, preservatives and by-products. Finally, Honest Kitchen products are made with human-grade ingredients.

Summary:

Total estimated retail value: $28.77

Product tally:
Edibles = 4
Toys = 1
Hygiene = 0

Verdict:
Size: I was happy that we received 4 full size items and 1 sample size item!

Products: We received a fair variety of high-quality products this month. I would have preferred if there were less treats and a greater variety of products (ex. toys or hygiene products) in the box. Our dog is excited about all of these items.

Value: N/A - I won this box from a giveaway. Normally a BarkBox monthly subscription costs $29. We received over $28 worth of products. Our dog loves BarkBoxThe high-quality products and 10% shelter/rescue donation makes BarkBox a great subscription box!
